Valenciennes FC put a difficult recent run of form behind them to sink Evian TG FC 2-1 at the Stade du Hainaut.

A Rudy Mater cross was helped on inadvertently by Aldo Angoula into the path of Pujol, who controlled before beating Laquait this time with a right-footed shot for his fifth goal of the campaign to put the home side 1-0 up.

Evian drew level against the run of play in the 34th minute when Yannick Sagbo set up strike partner Saber Khlifa to net his first goal in the league since a hat-trick in the 3-2 victory at Montpellier in early October.

There was drama early in the second half, with Mathieu Dossevi missing the target from the penalty spot after Brice Dja Djédjé had been penalised. The game could have swung either way after that, but then came a decisive moment in the match as Djakaridja Koné was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Opa Nguette.

With quarter of an hour remaining, Mater and Anthony Le Tallec combined to set up José Saez to score his first goal since September last year which turned out to be the winner.
